Sharon Hammer Counseling
“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. … There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”
—Rachel Carson, Silent Spring
Hello and Welcome
I am Sharon Hammer and I am counselor in Meridian, Idaho. Meridian is a suburb located west of Boise. My website contains information about me, my credentials, the services that I provide, important information about fees and insurance, how to get started and how to contact me.
I would like to address an issue that I feel is important and often ignored and that is the stigma that can be associated with “mental health counseling.” Someone, an individual or a couple, receiving counseling can be viewed by family and friends as “weak” or “not able to handle their own problems.” So often we hear “suck it up,” “get a grip” or “just get over it.” These types of characterizations and statements are harmful and hurtful and create shame, embarrassment and fear associated with seeking counseling. I speak from my own personal experience as well as the countless clients that I have met.
Let me clear up any misconception about counseling. There is no shame in seeing a counselor in fact, it is one of the kindest acts of self-care that individuals and couples can engage in. Engaging in counseling with a counselor that resonates with you and the issues you are working through can be one of the most rewarding and personal growth opportunities that you can experience. So, whether you choose to see me as a counselor or someone else, I encourage you to let go of what others may believe about counseling, that is their stuff, and seek out a counselor that will help you process, heal and realize the beautiful intuitive and unique person that you are.
